Multifocal IOLIntraocular Lens Implants

During your consultative process regarding cataract surgery you will be asked to make a decision regarding lens implants. You can select a traditional monofocal lens implant which can enable good vision at ONE distance or you can elect to have a Multi-focal LENS implant that enables good vision at near, far and intermediate distances. Larson Eye Center has chosen to use the Crystalens & Trulign by Bausch and Lomb, the Tecnis multi-focal and toric lenses by AMO and the Toric lens. Please consult our staff and doctors about the extreme wonders that the new premium lens implants offer.

Crystalens

CrystalensThe Crystalens® accommodating intraocular lens is an intraocular lens used after cataract surgery or as a lens alternative in presbyopic lens exchange. The concept of the lens was engineered with a hinge design to allow the optic, or part of the lens that you see through, to move back and forth as your focus on an image changes. The Crystalens® accommodative intraocular lens is permanently implanted with a surgical process and functions in a similar fashion as the natural eye. Once the surgery has been completed your eyes can focus on far or near objects in a comfortable way with no discomfort. If you are experiencing presbyopia or cataracts please feel free to consult us about the possibility of utilizing the new Crystalens® accommodative intraocular lens.

Toric IOLs For Astigmatism

Toric IOL Dr. Larson and Dr. Sarkos, Chicago cataract surgery experts and comprehensive ophthalmologists are pleased to offer Alcon’s Toric IOL for Astigmatism correction after cataract surgery. The recent advancements in Intraocular Lens (IOL) technology have now made it possible to provide an effective solution for patients that have astigmatism. Until recently, patients that were IOL candidates and had astigmatism, had no option built into the lens, that would correct the astigmatism aspect of their visual condition. Surgeons would typically perform refractive surgery or LASIK after the insertion of an IOL to correct the complete visual picture. If patients did not have astigmatism correction after IOL implantation then contacts or glasses would be required to deal with the astigmatism. With advancements in the optics of IOLs the manufacturers have now been able to accommodate for astigmatism.

Many patients suffer from astigmatism. Often an astigmatism can lead to blurred or impaired vision if it becomes moderate or severe. The cause of the blurred and impaired vision is the result of the eye's cornea or lens having an irregular shape. A normal eye's cornea and lens have a circular shape whereas an eye with an astigmatism has a longer more oval shape.

Eye surgery is not always needed for patients with an astigmatism. Most astigmatisms are not severe enough to warrant surgery and can self correct with contacts or glasses. Only in cases where the astigmatism cannot correct itself and vision becomes too impaired is surgery necessary. Cataract patients who have a pre-exisiting astigmatism can benefit from a surgical procedure that can correct both the cataract and astigmatism. Cataract patients who suffer from astigmatism can request an Alcon Toric IOL to correct their vision without the need of contacts or glasses.

Over the past ten years, doctors have looked for ways to help correct astigmatisms in cataract patients. Surgeons have tried to alter the shape of the cornea by making an incision during the cataract surgery. Now, with the creation of the Alcon Toric IOLs, vision can be improved or repaired without more surgery. The Alcon Toric IOL helps to refocus vision to eye once the natural lens and the cataract have been removed from the patient. The design of the Alcon Toric IOL is also used to correct preexisting astigmatism with the same technology as contact lenses. The Alcon Toric IOL has the ability to relieve patients from being dependent on corrective lenses after they've had cataract surgery.

Patient's who have an astigmatic problem and are candidates for cataract surgery can request a Alcon Toric IOL to help improve their vision. An Alcon Toric IOL can treat both the cataract and astigmatism in one surgical out-patient procedure.

Trulign

The TRULIGN is an intraocular lens implant used to replace the natural lens of the eye following the removal of a cataract. Larson Eye Center is proud to offer our patients the latest advancements in intraocular lens technology and are pleased to offer TRULIGN at our offices serving the Downers Grove Oakbrook and La Grange regions.

The TRULIGN is considered to be the new direction for lens replacements. It is true that standard monofocal IOLs deliver improved vision, but this improved vision is set at just one distance: usually far. As a result, after cataract surgery, many patients often ned to wear glasses for near and intermediate vision; sometimes glasses are necessary even if they weren't required prior to surgery.

But because the TRULIGN Toric IOL is a premium IOL that treats not only your cataracts but any post-operative astigmatism as well, it can result in much greater freedom from glasses, ultimately providing you with a broader range of vision. The TRULIGN lens truly is the future of lens replacement.

Some of the main benefits of TRULIGN include:

According to clinical results, 99.2% of all patients reported no significant visual disturbances with the TRULIGN Toric IOL.
