PRK

PRK, or Photorefractive Keratectomy, also uses the excimer laser to treat the surface of the cornea. But unlike LASIK, PRK does not require a corneal flap to be made. Instead, a thin epithelium layer is removed from the corneal surface before it is treated with the laser. The procedure is performed under local eye drop anesthesia and is done entirely on an outpatient basis.

A thin layer of epithelium is removed.

Laser is administered under precise computer control.

For patients with thin corneas; large pupils; or low to moderate amount of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism; PRK is a great alternative to other laser vision correction procedures.

Benefits include:

  • Can treat patients with thin corneal and large pupils
  • Reduces chance of halos and night glare
  • No potential flap complications
